Baggage Delay/Damage/Loss

If your baggage failed to arrive at the destination on schedule or is damaged, please explain the situation to the Baggage Service Counter in the lounge and we will provide help as much as we can.
 
 
Compensation and Litigation
  • Passengers entitled for compensation for baggage damages should submit to China Eastern Airlines a written claim for the compensation within 7 days upon receipt of the checked baggage. 
  • Passengers entitled for compensation for delayed baggage should submit to China Eastern Airlines a written claim for the compensation within 21 days upon receipt of the checked baggage. 
  • Litigation must be resolved within two years after the plane arrives at the destination (for example, arrival), or before the involved flight is canceled. Otherwise the litigation will be revoked.
 
Compensation Standard
 
Domestic flights:
 
If the checked baggage is damaged or lost, the amount of compensation should be less than 100 RMB/Kg (1 Kg = 2.2 pounds) (or a foreign currency of the equivalent value). If the baggage values less than 100 RMB/Kg (1 Kg = 2.2 pounds) (or a foreign currency of the equivalent value), the baggage should be compensated based on its real value.
 
International flights:
 
The Baggage compensation limit for flights in compliance with the Warsaw Convention is 17 SDR* per kilogram. If the actual loss of the Baggage is below this standard, the compensation will be made based on the actual loss. The compensation limit for non-checked Baggage is 332 SDR*.
 
The Baggage compensation limit for flights in compliance with the Montreal Convention is 30 USD* per kilogram (or in a foreign currency of an equivalent value). If the actual loss of the Baggage is below this standard, the compensation will be made based on the actual loss. With proper proof provided, the compensation limit for checked and non-checked Baggage for each Passenger is 1,131 SDR*.
 
If the weight of the Baggage cannot be determined, the company will make the compensation based on the free baggage weight ceiling allowed for each Passenger in each cabin class.
 
The one-time compensation for delayed Baggage for the economy class is 300 RMB (or the equivalent value in a foreign currency), business class 400 RMB (or the equivalent value in a foreign currency), and first class 500 RMB (or the equivalent value in a foreign currency).
 
Baggage claims shall be confirmed in accordance with the provisions of China Eastern Airlines on Baggage transportation.
 
If your Baggage has been insured, we can provide you with the documents required for your claims to the insurance company.
*SDR refers to the Special Drawing Rights stipulated by International Monetary Fund. One (1) SDR values about US$1.37, and the exchange rate can fluctuate.
