Special Assistance & Medical Service
Special Needs
1. Information About Special Needs
If you have special needs, please let us know what we can do to accommodate them. Whether you have difficulty with hearing, are a senior citizen, have special dietary requirements or have a physical or mental disability, we hope to make your flight safe and comfortable.
Just Let Us Know
If you need special assistance due to age, health, a disability or other reasons, we recommend that you contact our local Reservation office 72 hours before departure so that we can make special arrangements for your flight and arrange assistance with connecting flights. We strive to make your travel with China Eastern Airlines as smooth and as comfortable as possible.
Some passengers who have significant disabilities may need to travel with a personal care attendant for their own comfort, convenience and safety. Also, we strongly advise that you travel with a personal care attendant if you need in-flight assistance with eating, medical assistance (such as with taking medications or using medical devices) and other personal bodily functions assistance, as we cannot assist you in these areas. The personal care attendant must travel in the same class with you.
2. Passengers with Disabilities
Many people with disabilities can safely and comfortably travel with China Eastern Airlines without making special arrangements. We require advance notice through our Reservation office or your travel agent for some disabilities and we recommend 72 hours’ advance notice before departure so that we can better accommodate any special needs you may have.
3. China Eastern wheelchair services
We would be more than happy to provide a wheelchair for you should you require this service.
China Eastern wheelchair service is provided, with an attendant, at no additional charge. The attendant will assist in transporting you within the airport area and to the gate or aircraft door (depending on the airport facilities). During peak travel periods, there may be a high wheelchair service demand, and we appreciate your patience if it is necessary for you to wait a few minutes for this service. Please contact our Reservations Office and submit two copies of Special Service Applications Form if you would like to apply our wheelchair service.
4. Visually Impaired passengers
Passengers who are blind or visually impaired may bring a cane or other assistive/supportive device with them into the cabin. These items are not subject to the cabin baggage limit and may be carried free of charge. Passengers who are not blind or visually impaired may also bring a cane or other assistive/supportive device with them into the cabin at no additional charge. The cane will need to be stowed prior to take-off and landing and stowage can be under your seat or in the overhead compartment. You may ask our cabin crew for assistance in loading and retrieving your cane in case it is not collapsible or if it cannot be stowed under your seat.
5. Hearing Impaired passengers
Please inform us if you are deaf or hearing impaired so that we can provide assistance to you in the event that your flight is delayed or if the departure gate is changed after you have checked in. An individual safety briefing can be arranged upon request.
6. Oxygen
Oxygen for therapeutic or medical purposes is available on China Eastern flights in cylinders provided by us. For safety reasons, we cannot accept oxygen cylinders brought by passengers themselves. Please contact our Reservations Office if you require the use of oxygen, or any other respiratory assistance device, on board so that we may assist you.
7. Passengers Needing Escorts
For safety reasons, China Eastern may require a passenger to travel with a safety assistant if the passenger:
Will travel in a stretcher or incubator or require medical attention during the flight. (The attendant must be capable of attending to their medical needs in the cabin)
Is unable to comprehend or respond properly to safety instructions due to a mental disability.
Has mobility impairment, which is so severe that the passenger is unable to assist in his or her own evacuation from the aircraft.
Has severe hearing and vision impairments and cannot establish some means of communication with airline employees.
8. Document Requirements for Pregnant Passengers
(1). Pregnant passengers whose gestational weeks are less than 32 during the actual flight period shall present a copy of the maternal health handbook (big card) or the consecutive pregnant patient certificate with the hospital’s stamp on it as their pregnancy certificate, when they are purchasing tickets, checking in and boarding.
(2). Pregnant passengers whose gestational weeks are more than 32 (including) but less than 36 during the actual flight period shall present, except for the above mentioned documents, the Diagnosis Certificate (in duplicate) stamped by the hospital and signed by the doctor of the hospital no more than 72 hours before departure.
(3). China Eastern Airlines does not accept carriage of pregnant passengers whose gestational weeks are more than 36 (including).
9. Babies
Our long haul aircraft are equipped with special baby bassinets and packs, as well as a wide range of baby food. Each has at least two toilets with special fold-down tables for changing diapers. For safety reasons, China Eastern Airlines does not accept babies under 14 days old.
10. Special Orders
If you'd like to have a special meal, please contact our Rep Office at least 24 hours (Kosher Meal 48 hours) before departure and we will do our best to meet your needs.
11. Unaccompanied Children and Minor
We will look after children, aged between 5 and 11 years, who are travelling unaccompanied -- both inflight and in transit. Passengers must visit a China Eastern local office or contact China Eastern call center to purchase tickets and apply for this service.
Airfares for children under Unaccompanied Minor Service might differ from those travelling with adult companions. Please contact our Rep Office for more details.
